INTRODUCTION TO 7 DAY DEVOTIONAL
The eighth and ninth chapters of II Corinthians addresses an
appeal that had gone out to the predominantly Gentile churches
in Asia Minor to financially help the followers of Christ in
Jerusalem who were suffering extreme hardship. In addressing
the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul uses the response of that
same appeal by the Macedonian church as a way of encouraging
the Corinthians to complete their collection. The Macedonians,
though not well off themselves, begged for the opportunity to
give. And when they did, they gave far more than they could
afford. Paul told the Corinthians that if they responded as the
Macedonians their faithfulness in giving would affirm their
commitment to Christ and deepen their faith in the process.
Primarily from these two chapters the well-known preacher A.
B. Simpson saw an approach to giving in support of ministries
beyond the local church that has come to be known as the Faith
Promise. This method of supporting missions through the local
church is being used by countless churches to provide a sure and
significant financial base for ministry. In fact, most of the
churches with the largest missions budgets practice Faith
Promise giving.
As you prayerfully discern your participation in Faith Promise,
open your heart to God’s heart during the next seven days of
reading and meditation. Seek to find how and where He is
directing you. Offer yourself to Him and be prepared to be
amazed at how He decides to work through you.
